Green Living is a demonstration of how living in the city centre does NOT mean that you have to look at ugly concrete walls. The idea is to maximise the amount of space used for planting and also to hide any dull and boring surfaces. Therefore the plot boundaries are green, living walls and the roof structure over the seating area is also a green, living roof. This is attractive and also helps to prevent as much noise entering the garden as possible, and also gives a more pleasant view when looking out from overlooking windows.
a
The garden floor consists of long, thin paved stepping stones that look as though they are hovering over the surface of the water, with lush foliage and attractive flower heads emerging from the pool. For example, the pinks and purples of Nymphaea, Iris, and Lythrum. are soothing and contrast nicely against the green backdrop, but the browns of the Typha and Cyperus tie in with the hard landscaping materials – warm Indian stone and the dark burnt umber of the teak.
a
Jets in the water add further interest to the garden as does the wooden panelling on the back wall, which also has a row of photographs scanned onto tiles and mounted onto the wood, like pictures on a wall to give a personal feel.
a
This garden is to used for a multitude of functions, including sitting, reading, dinning and artistic hobbies. This garden is designed for younger occupiers with creative interests; it is an attractive area that stimulates the artistic senses.

The ‘Aqua Life’ garden has been designed as a section of a larger plot, an established dwelling set in an equally styled landscape, but with modern features to be utilized. It is a demonstration of the natural water features that can be achieved in a modern, up to date garden. The garden exhibits various features used in traditional designs but set out in a new and innovative style. Included in the space will be a natural swimming pool, children’s paddling pool, outdoor shower and a water feature. The main feature being a natural swimming pool, sometimes called a swimming pond which is perfect for a large traditional plot as it allows a gradual transition from the building to a more contemporary idea. This design is modern yet set in a private parkland setting, with what is classed as a traditional combination. Wild, rustic, natural design in the midst of fresh, clean, clear water that allows a natural, chlorine free swimming experience, and will most importantly blend seamlessly into the environment.
The garden is to be utilised by the whole family, with a main swimming pool for the adults and a shallow paddling pool for the children. Not only is it an activate area, but there is a quiet place at the opposite end of the plot to sit and relax in front of a water feature, slightly secluded from the other features.

Time Out, Back To Back Garden
Designed by Phillippa Probert (2007)

This garden is a very simple design that allows the occupier to sit quietly amongst the planting. Although the garden gives a very natural feel with the Stipa tenuissima, Stipa arundicea and Stipa gigantea, as they influence the overall scheme, this garden is definitely a plant lovers retreat. Geum, Echinacea, Pennisetum, Perovskia, Verbenna, Scabious, Rudbeckia, Ligularia are just a few of the bright and attractive perennials that have been selected to add colour and interest to the planting as they emerge from the mass of ornamental grasses.
With the hedged boundaries, turf pathway and seating area that also becomes a planting divide, the space consists of purely soft landscaping. Thin turf strips cut through the overall planting to form irregular shaped beds.
The colours gradually run from oranges and golden browns through to pink, purple, lemon, yellow and back to orange, which ties in perfectly with the golden tones created by the various Stipa and Carex.
